The Big Screen
The Big Screen was started a couple of years ago by the village hall committee. We have shown new films before they are released to DVD. We have shown a range of films from comedy to drama and have had a reasonable success. Our plan was to subsidise the first 3 months by £600 to get them off the ground and to prove we could achieve running the BIG SCREEN and hopefully try to make a small profit. In fact even though we haven't made a profit we have not lost a great deal. We only charge £3 entry.
Films are rented from Filmbank Ltd and in accordance with their licensing rules and they have a vast database of films.
The Projector equipment at the moment is borrowed and plugs into the village hall sound system. We have a large collapsible screen which goes on the stage and it takes 4 people to organise the evening. This is to put out chairs, set the equipment out, take the money and run the wine / coffee bar. It doesn't take a lot of time but we do need to develop the Big Screen with extra help to give the option for others to have a night off should they wish.
We are looking at forming a small committee of villagers to organise & develop the BIG SCREEN evenings.
The committee will have control on what films to show, what day to show it on. Currently we show on a Wednesday but this could be changed to a Friday to try and get more people in. The idea is to run a regular successful Film Night for the village.
It could be turned into a Film Club where you pay a modest fee per year and have FREE entry to all shows providing you are a member.
